These coin like pods can produce biofilm with the best of them. The Jacaranda pod has a smooth outer shell that looks similar to a red skinned potato. The woody inside is two toned, darker on the inside and lighter on the outside. They can range in size from 1.5" x 2" to 2.5" x 3". These are also mild tannin producers, and make a great addition to your leaf litter.
Slow boil your Jacaranda Pods for approximately 20 minutes and allow to cool in fresh, cold-room temperature water for a few hours before adding to your aquarium. This allows any residual organics to come off before adding to your tank.
