Pure Nordic Feeding Schedule
Many have asked how to feed Pure Nordic’s line-up of shrimp foods. So here it is =) A few notes before you get into the article. These are just guidelines to help you get a better understanding of how to use the Pure Nordic rotational diet. How much and how often you feed will vary depending on your tank population and health. Start small and adjust as needed. Pellets should not be left in the tank for more than an hour or two. If your shrimp didn’t eat it in that time, they’re not hungry, and I usually give them a skip day, or two if they really didn’t touch it. If you’re a more advanced shrimp keeper, and would like to see how I use the entire RAW lineup, skip to the bottom of the article.
Red Cherry Shrimp eating Pure Nordic Nordsnow
This line up is great for the shrimp keepers who like to feed a rotational diet. Rotation diets became hugely popular in the pet keeping world in the last few years, especially in the dog community. There are many benefits to feeding a rotational diet to your pets. Mainly, when feeding a rotation of foods, you can assure that you’re not missing any essential vitamins/minerals and not overdoing it on fats/proteins. We can’t eat steak and potatoes every day, and expect to have the vitamins we need. Same goes for your shrimp and other pets.
Pure Nordic is my go to brand, because it has everything your shrimp need, in a “raw” form, so you know the goods haven’t been cooked out. Pure Nordic Raw products are completely organic and made using a purely cold press without the addition of heat, resulting is a softer more textured pellet. This process retains more of the essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that will contribute to your colonies health.
Pintos and Blue Bolts Eating Daybyday
I have made two different feeding schedules, tailored to the casual shrimp keeper who may not have a huge colony to feed, and for the breeder who needs to feed every day.
If you’re wondering “How should I feed my shrimp” and you just started a new colony, start with the standard feeding schedule. Skip days will be important for a small group of shrimp, mainly because over feeding is easy to do with a small colony, and one of the biggest mistakes made by new shrimp keepers. Not only are you risking polluting your water with excess foods, but you could over feed them and cause deformities, such as a hump back if you’re feeding too much protein. Standard rotation would include: Nordsnow, Daybyday, Mineral, and Nutridust.

When it comes to powder foods like Nutridust, you have to be careful not to overfeed. In a booming shrimp population I like to use 1 scoop per 10 gallons, but if you do not have baby shrimp and a booming population, its not advised to feed often, and I would half the dosage to ½ scoop per 10 gallons.
For the more advanced shrimp keepers, this is how I utilize the full Pure Nordic line up. The entire line-up includes: Nordsnow, RAW Daybyday, RAW Nutridust, RAW Mineral, RAW Aminostix, RAW Biofilm, RAW ProProbiotic, and RAW Green Herb. I do a bi-weekly schedule here, as there are a couple foods that I don’t feed every single week.

This should be only used as a guide, and a starting point in creating your own unique feeding schedule tailored to your shrimp, whether it's neocaridina, caridina, or amano shrimp. It should be noted that Nordsnow is a GREAT vacation feeder, as the food will never foul your tank. You can drop a pile in your tank and they can graze on it for the duration of your vacation (within reason) as it will grow biofilm and mycelium instead of rotting, which is another great food source for your shrimp.
